What is an extracurricular?

Extracurriculars should stem from interest or passion.

Extracurriculars are typically synonymous with club activities at school. However, the truth is, it could be ANYTHING that isn't school credit. It does not have to tie into school activities.

Say for example you're active in church volunteer work, that could be counted as an extracurricular. Anything that demonstrates your abilities and talents could be considered an extracurricular.

Extracurriculars are an important part of your college application. Find something you are interested in and think of the possibilities you could do with that interest. For example, I really liked making films outside of the classroom setting in high school. Because of that, I volunteered to do a PSA for a local community.

If you do not have time to pursue extracurricular activities because you were to busy with supporting your family one way or another, please note this in your applications. It will not hurt your admissions. It can help display your maturity, leadership, and responsibility for your age.
